Hong Kong and Macau Offline Maps for Android

Hong Kong and Macau offiline maps are available for free download.  The maps are working with Full version of "GPS Grid Reference" app, which is developed by Luck, on Android.  The maps covered the whole Hong Kong and Macau.  The maps are well tested on Nexus One with Android 2.2.1.  (I encountered a problem of search and download the "GPS Grid Reference" on Dell Streak that is running Android 2.1Update1 at the time of this writing.)

You can purchase the full version of "GPS Grid Reference - Full by Luck" from the Market and the price is 4.99 pounds (about $75-HK) at the time of this writing.

After the purchase, you can download the offline maps and extract to the SD card of your Android.   You should put the maps to "/SDCard/GPS Grid Reference/tiles/".  The size of Hong Kong and Macau offline maps is about 110Mb and 10Mb respectively.  Make sure you have at least 110Mb free spaces on your SD card.  Or, you may need "EStrong File Explorer" (or similar) to access the SD card.  Two offline maps cannot be co-existed as they will overwrite each other.

Why paid for GPS Grid Reference?

There are many free offline map apps available in the Market but why bother to pay for "GPS Grid Reference"?

The main reason to use "GPS Grid Reference" is that this app supports Military Grid Reference System (MGRS) completely amongst in the Market so far.  MGRS is widely used by military and hikers.

The completed tutorial about how to install and use of the offline map is here.

*** Two offline maps cannot be co-existed as they will overwrite each other.

*** The offline maps are well tested on Nexus One with Android 2.2.1 and GPS Grid Reference 2.6.

Make sure you have enabled GPS on your Android.  Start "GPS Grid Reference" app on your Android.  Select "GPS". and select "OSM (default)" at "Map Mode".  Please allow several minutes for the positioning.  You are not required to activate the wireless or 2G/3G on your Android.  That is OFFLINE.

*** Please reminded that I am not working for "GPS Grid Reference" and "EStrong File Explorer".  I got nothing when you purchase any app from them!
